FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Conejo Community Outreach to hold first Open Closet Day
Conejo Valley nonprofit provides free resource to local families in need

Thousand Oaks, CALIF. (Jan. 24, 2017) — Conejo Community Outreach (CCO), a Conejo Valley-based nonprofit, has announced its first Open Closet Day, which will allow local individuals and families open access to its Community Closet — a free resource developed to provide basic necessities to families and individuals in need. The event — open to all Conejo Valley residents — will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Tang Soo Do University in Newbury Park, located at 300-F Giant Oak Ave.

The nonprofit officially launched its Community Closet in September of 2016 after hosting a weeklong donation drive in which community residents were invited to donate items to the Closet’s inventory. Since the resource’s launch, the nonprofit has been accommodating requests on an individual basis, taking into account need and availability. Currently, the Closet inventory is stored in multiple storage units, where donations have been sorted and organized into bins that contain baby items such as bottles, bibs and blankets, baby clothing, kids’ clothing, maternity wear, coats, shoes and beyond.

The nonprofit is currently limited in its ability to respond to Closet requests as the current process for fulfilling needs calls upon available board members to make trips to the storage unit where they prepare customized packages based on the specific needs requested. Recognizing an opportunity to accommodate the requests on a larger scale, CCO secured space at a local karate studio, owned by one of its board members, and will work with volunteers to transfer and set up Closet inventory in one of the studio’s private rooms for the event’s use.

“As a nonprofit comprised of six local moms —most of us with multiple children and jobs — it was important for us to establish a way to handle requests in an efficient manner,” said Andrea Yusim, president of CCO. “We’re pleased to have the opportunity to host an Open Closet Day, allowing families to browse our available inventory and pick out what they need.”

Those interested in attending Open Closet Day are encouraged, but not required, to preregister prior to the event so that the nonprofit can assess need and work to accommodate specific requests.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Conejo Community Outreach Launches Flagship Event
Local charitable organization aims to feed families in need this Thanksgiving

Newbury Park, Calif. (Nov. 9, 2015) - Conejo Community Outreach (CCO), a local, charitable organization, has officially launched its first community event, “Conejo Community Thanksgiving.” The event aims to provide Thanksgiving Day food packages to local families for whom it might otherwise be a financial burden. CCO is calling upon the generosity of local Conejo Valley residents to help participate in the event, which will take place between Saturday, Nov. 21 and Wednesday, Nov. 25, by nominating families, volunteering, and/or donating non-perishable food items and monetary contributions. Nominated families that can be accommodated will be notified accordingly and will be able to pick up their food packages on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Founding a local charitable organization has been a longtime dream of the organization’s Founder and President, Andrea Yusim. Yusim chose to spearhead the launch of the organization with a Thanksgiving Day Event for its ability to encompass the organization’s mission of bringing families and community together. Of this event, Yusim says, “We want each family to have the oven warm their own homes and the smells envelop their own houses, and have the ability sit down to a meal cooked for their own families without the anxiety of what an expense it is for a single meal.”

In order to make this event a success, CCO has reached out to local online mom groups in the Conejo Valley to call upon their social media platforms and community connections in pursuit of making the event a collaborative and community event in which everyone can contribute. CCO is confident that residents of the Conejo Valley will help make this a memorable Thanksgiving for many families in the area who otherwise not be able to afford such a meal. Pertinent information regarding how to nominate a family, how to volunteer as a food drop-off location, how to volunteer for the event and how to donate can be found on the organization’s website (http://www.conejocommunityoutreach.com).
