An Announcement from Conejo Community Outreach
We hope everyone is enjoying 2018, so far. We'd like to provide an update regarding our Community Closet.
We hope everyone is enjoying 2018, so far. We'd like to provide an update regarding our Community Closet.
The past 18 months of our Community Closet has shown an uptick in diaper and wipe requests, and a dialing-down of clothing and shoe requests. We continue to be grateful for the community outpouring of donations we received toward our Closet inventory, most of which we were able to turn around and provide to families in need on a special request basis, at our Open Closet day last year — which serviced more than 100 individuals — and most recently to help those affected by the fires in Ventura. Since opening our Community Closet we estimate we've fulfilled nearly 200 requests through these efforts.
Moving forward, we have have made the decision to close down our physical storage spot for the clothing and instead focus our finances, donation drives and attention on increasing our ability to provide diaper and wipes (and formula in emergency cases) to local residents in need. We are no longer taking clothing or baby gear donations, and are in the process of donating our small remaining Closet inventory to another local community-focused 501(c)(3) organization.
Instead, we will increase our diaper storage and focus solely on diaper and wipe donation drives. Government assistance does not cover diapers, and most daycares require mothers to bring their own diapers to cover their child. Did you know that a lack of diapers can keep a mom who wants to work from being able to, because their child cannot attend early education programs or daycare without them?
Conejo Community Outreach is dedicated to improving the lives of local families in our community by helping to connect local generosity with local need. If your school or business would like to host a diaper drive, please email us at [email protected]. If you are in need of diapers, we are undergoing a slight transitional phase, but we are here to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our community is stronger when our kids are appropriately fed, clothed and diapered.
Please stay tuned for other announcements this year as we continue to focus on creating resources for those in our community with your ongoing support and help.
