You've seen our posts about our Conejo Community Closet. You've donated Closet items. You've helped us sort donations. And now you're wondering.... what exactly is the Community Closet? What's next? Where do those donations go?
We have all the answers for you, after the jump!
We have all the answers for you, after the jump!
A community "closet" has been a long time dream of our non-profit's Founder and President, Andrea Yusim. Once she pitched the idea to the board, we were eager to develop a plan to help this dream become a reality. The Community Closet, at its core, is a resource created by CCO, with the help of the community to assist local individuals and families in need acquire necessities such as clothing, baby gear, and household items they may not otherwise be able to obtain for a variety of reasons or circumstances. The Closet will achieve this goal by aiming to link continued donations from members of our own community to fellow neighbors and families within the Conejo Valley.
Now that we've successfully completed our donations' week and sorting party, the next phase will be for our organization to look into customizing our storage space, (secured by Newbury Park Self Storage) in order to better store the many donations we've received for easy access. We are very grateful to Newbury Park Self Storage, who generously donated the two units to CCO, free of charge for the first four months of use.
*Moving forward, we will need to cover a monthly cost to secure our units. Would you or your business like to sponsor one of our units? Please email us to learn about the sponsorship packages we offer.
The final phase before officially launching the Closet, will be for CCO to finalize our application form, which any interested individual or family must fill out in order to be considered as a candidate for access to the Closet. Applications will be reviewed based on select criteria and those we can accommodate will be notified and set-up with an appointment time and date to receive items from the Closet. Once this form is completed on our end, and we are ready to accept applications, a link to the application with be provided on our website, on our Community Closet page.
We are so grateful for all of the donations, support, and help we've received from members within our community and understand that many would still like to donate. Tang Soo Do University, in Newbury Park, has once again come to our aid in offering to host donation drop-offs, a service we are extremely appreciative of. Once we are in a place to receive additional donations, we will announce new donation drop-off dates.
Thank you for continuing to support our organization and please stay updated with us on our Facebook page.
